Montgomery County TX Things to Do

Looking for things to do Montgomery County TX?

You needn’t look far.  The area is rich in history.  One great place to start would be the Heritage Museum of Montgomery which is located on I-45 in Conroe.  The museum offers exhibits ranging from antique toys to memorabilia about astronaut Robert Crippen, a Montgomery County resident who flew on the Apollo missions, to original documents dating back to 1831 which were signed by Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston when Texas was a Republic.

Also featured by the museum each year in July is “Pioneer Days” which is a summer program for 9-12 year olds.  During these days, participants learn about churning butter, making rope, walking on stilts, washing on a rub-board, quilting, spinning, weaving and lots of other fun things.

For enjoyment of the arts, consider visiting the Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe.  The Crighton is home for performances by the Crighton Players, The Sounds of Texas Music, and the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society.  The Crighton is a beautifully restored vaudeville-era theater for stage plays, musical and symphony performances, as well as dance recitals and other special events.

In 1999 the restoration began with bricked sidewalks and lamp posts reminiscent of days gone by.  With the building façade restored to its original beauty, you will feel like you’ve stepped back into the “good old days” for an exciting night out at the theatre.

If you are in the Willis area, you can take in a round of golf at the Texas National Golf Club, or possibly slip away into Houston for a day of shopping and elegant dining.

The community of Walden offers plenty of family activities which include two swimming pools, playgrounds, golf and racquet clubs and boating on the lake, and restaurants.

In Montgomery, an area locally know as West Park offers 50 acres of fun activities for families.  It has five lighted baseball fields, three softball fields which are equipped with restrooms and concessions stands as well as picnic areas.  West Park is maintained by the Montgomery Girl’s Softball Association and the Montgomery Youth Sports Association.  The parks amenities are available for private use with permission from the Montgomery County Parks Department and those two associations.

April Sound, which is a gated community, offers lots for its residents to do.  Among the many activities available for enjoyment are 27 holes of golf, 18 which are on a championship course; a tennis center, four courts are covered; 12 outside tennis courts, 8 are lighted; four swimming pools, a full-service workout center; a marina and boat launch; as well as a playground and athletic field.

In Bentwater, a visit to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion yields lots of entertaining things to do.  The outdoor amphitheater is surrounded by unparalleled beauty and is the summer home for the Houston Symphony and has drawn such touring artists whose names have included Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Van Halen, Cher, and many others.

Regardless of whether you are looking for something to do indoors or outdoors, on land or on the water, you can find just about anything you want to do in Montgomery County TX.
